Seattle Chiropractor Discusses How to Outsmart Seasonal Allergies (Naturally)
What’s up Seattle? Your chiropractic team with Emerald City Spinal Care here! It is FINALLY spring time in the northwest, but unfortunately for some of us, that also means allergy season is here. So, what I am going to do today is share with you four natural ways that you can outsmart your seasonal allergies.
If you suffer from sneezing and red, itchy eyes, you are not alone. Nearly 17 million adults and 7 million kids suffer from seasonal allergies each year! What happens with seasonal allergies is, your body is exposed to something it believes is a threat to your immune system. As such, your body releases histamine into your blood stream and it is this histamine in your blood stream that causes these allergy symptoms to arise. So, what I am here to do today is to share with you four natural remedies that can help ease your allergy symptoms. Let’s dive right in!
- The first is quercetin, which is a plant derived flavonoid. There are two great ways that you can get it. The first is high quality quercetin supplements from a local health food store. The second is honey produced by local bees, so be sure to check out your local farmers market for honey. Before using quercetin, be sure to consult with your doctor on any possible side effects and whether or not it is OK for you to take.
- The second natural remedy is stinging nettles, which is a flowering plant that has been shown to reduce hay fever symptoms. You can get stinging nettles in the form of a supplement, or you can try nettle leaf tea.
- The third natural remedy are probiotics. Probiotics are live organisms that help balance good bacteria in your gut. The best way to get them are through probiotic rich foods such as yogurt, keefer and miso.
- The fourth and final tip I want to share with you today is chiropractic. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to boost your immune system, and with a strengthened immune system it can help lead to a reduction in allergy symptoms.
That wraps up another Tip of the Week. For all you allergy sufferers out there in Seattle and beyond, give some of these remedies a try and drop us a line to let us know how they go for you. As someone who suffers from Seattle’s seasonal allergies myself, I know how debilitating seasonal allergies can be, and I have personally used these remedies myself to great affect!
